Heavy fighting as Boko Haram attempts to overrun Maiduguri

Gunshots and heavy fighting took place on Sunday in Maiduguri, Borno State, as hundreds of Boko Haram members attempted to overrun the city. The fighting, which reportedly started around 5:00 p.m. was said to have left many casualties mainly from the side of the insurgents and members of the Civilian JTF.
Tribune Online gathered that the terrorists, who arrived through Ajidalari along the Jiddari Polo were intercepted by troops and members of the Civilian JTF, resulting in exchange of gunshots from both sides and sending residents scamper for safety.

Attempt to speak with the spokesperson of the Operation Lafiya Dole, Colonel Mustapha Anka, did not succeed as his phone was busy at the time of filing this report. But residents of Polo and Damboa roads in Maiduguri said that the sound of guns which they did not hear for a long time has brought back memories of the dreadful days.
