Kenya: Stray lion spotted along Mombasa road injures man in Nairobi


A stray lion that escaped from Nairobi National Park injured an elderly man on Friday. The lion was sighted in the morning near City Cabanas on Mombasa Road. A video posted to social media showed the black-maned lion running along the highway as motorists hoot and shout.

Bukom Banku arrested for assaulting 3 ladies

Briamah Kamoko, boxer and notorious street fighter  aka Bukom Banku, has been detained after three ladies lodged a complaint of assault against him. The 38-year-old Cruiserweight champion was detained Tuesday by the Greater Accra Regional police.

He is said to have assaulted the ladies after a confrontation. Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional Police Command, ASP Afia Tengey, says the boxer’s detention is pending further investigations into allegations against him. One of the victims, Eunice Lamptey, suffered bruises on parts of her body as did the other two complainants. They told police Bukum Banku beat them up last Saturday. The boxer is expected to be arraigned before court after investigations.

Kumasi: New-born twins dumped at refuse site in A/R

The bodies of a set of new-born twins have been discovered at Sreso-Adegya in the Ashanti Region. The bodies were found at a communal waste disposal point by a worker at the site. The unit committee chair for the area, Mama Vida, who spoke with Accra News’ Cantona, said at about 11am, the refuse attendant in the town was on the site when he heard someone throw rubbish in a polythene bag into the garbage container.

Kenya: U.S. Man Jailed for 40 Years for Raping Children At Kenyan Orphanage

A United States judge on Monday handed down a 40-year sentence to a former Christian missionary previously found guilty of raping children at a Kenyan orphanage. "These were heinous crimes committed on the most vulnerable victims," Judge David Russell declared in imposing the sentence. "He was their worst nightmare come true," the judge added in regard to Matthew Lane Durham, 21, who had claimed he was possessed by an "inner demon." Prosecutors said Mr Durham carried out the attacks during a 33-day period in 2014 while serving as a volunteer at the Upendo Children's Home in Juja. Five of the abused children travelled last year from Kenya along with orphanage officials to testify at Mr Durham's trial.
