Thief resurrects in mortuary

A young man whose body had been deposited at a morgue after being pronounced dead by doctors returned to life Friday February 12, 2016. The incident occurred at the Bekwai Government Hospital in the Ashanti Region when another fresh corpse was being prepared for the mortuary.

The 48-year-old British fugitive, who allegedly murdered his girlfriend and two children in the United Kingdom (UK) and fled to Ghana, was arrested on suspicion of murder when he arrived at the Heathrow Airport in London on Friday. Arthur Simpson-Kent was repatriated to London on Thursday, February 11, 2016.

A SECURITY guard from Bulawayo has been slapped with a $250 fine for bedding his 15-year-old girlfriend twice. Cleopas Rerwa, 33, was initially charged with rape but regional magistrate Chrispen Mberewere convicted him of sleeping with a minor.

Seven passengers perished in a grisly road accident involving a matatu and a truck at Bonje near Mazeras trading centre on the Mombasa-Nairobi. The two vehicles which were traveling in opposite directions collided Saturday leaving death and injury in their wake.

Comfort Gbedebo in police custody

The Visa and Documentation Fraud Unit of the police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has arrested a 30-year-old Nigerian woman for allegedly engaging in Sim Box fraud. The suspect, Comfort Gbadebo, according to police reports, was operating a Sim Box machine which was capable of blocking revenue up to $13,824 daily from the United States of America.

Lawyer for one of the four persons being tried for fraud in the financial scandal involving DKM Diamond Microfinance Company and other companies has raised objections over the charges. According to Benony Tony Amekudzi, lawyer for Charles Asum, Director of Jastar Motors and Investments Company Limited, the charges against his client were unattainable.

Mombasa - Two police officers have been charged for the murder of a 14-year-old schoolgirl in Kwale County in Kenya. Former criminal investigation officer, inspector Veronica Gitahi and Police Constable Issa Mzee allegedly killed Kwekwe Mwandaza at her home two years ago as she slept with her two siblings.

A group of Catholic bishops from the Archdiocese of Blantyre has reportedly met with President Peter Mutharika to discuss among other things, Malawi's controversial homosexuality laws. Tension is heightening at Dumso, a community near Kintampo in the Brong Ahafo region, after some agitated youth killed about 80 cattle owned Fulani herdsmen. Kumasi: Muslim youth clash with land owners at Old Tafo; curfew imposed

The Ashanti Regional Security Council has placed a curfew on the Tafo township following clashes between the Muslim Community and the traditional authorities over a piece of cemetery land. Scores of persons were wounded on Wednesday in the clashes and have been sent to the hospital.

The most common symptoms of the Zika disease are fever, rash, joint pain, and conjunctivitis (red eyes), usually lasting from several days to a week, and most patients don't need hospitalisation. However the outbreak in Brazil has led to instances of Guillain-Barre syndrome and pregnant women giving birth to babies with birth defects
How it spreads:

Through mosquitoes, which mostly spread the virus during the day
Through sexual transmission
Mosquitoes also spread dengue and chikungunya viruses
There is no vaccine

How to prevent it:

Avoid getting mosquito bites by using insect repellants, and wearing long-sleeved shirts and trousers
Use air conditioning and/or a window screen to keep mosquitoes outside
Sleep under a mosquito bed net
Reduce the number of mosquitoes by emptying standing water from containers such as flowerpots or bucket
