Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has expressed shock at the news of the stabbing to death of Abuakwa North Member of Parliament (MP), Joseph Boakye Danquah Adu. The former President said that he never considered the news of the passing away of the former Legislator as a ‘normal’ one as according to him, the late MP still had more than enough to offer the nation.
“I am baffled by the news of his death…we know the older and the younger can all die but this is not normal death…I hardly understand what happened to the MP…,” he said. The one-time Deputy Women and Children’s Minister under the erstwhile administration of the former President was stabbed to death by unknown assailants on Tuesday dawn at his Shiashie home on Tuesday dawn.
Personnel of the Ghana Police Service have since picked five persons to help with investigations into the death of the MP. And the news of his death in the media this morning, the former President said left him in a state of utter shock as he could not come to terms with the fact that the man he considered one of the brilliant persons in his party had passed away. “The party and especially the nation have lost a great talent…the security agencies must be up and doing and investigate this death….” he appealed.
The high intelligence displayed by the MP when he was President, President Kufuor said prompted him to reward him with the deputy ministerial position as part of the moves to encouraging young ones in his party and the nation to do more. President Kufuor who said he last saw the late MP on Saturday, 6th February dressed in his beautiful Kente cloth said he would forever live to remember the man who always came to his house with one Lord Kwaku Boateng who is based in London.
“I am really shocked but what I can say is that I express my deepest condolences to the family and the entire country for this great loss…,” he said. The former Commander-in-Chief of Ghana’s Armed Forces however expressed concern about the state of the country’s security lately. Despite falling short of saying it was at lowest ebb, the former President called on them to lift up their game and help prevent the numerous calamities befalling the country lately.
“The series of catastrophes befalling the country is too much…the security agencies must be up and doing and investigate this…,” he said. According to him, cases of reported murders was becoming one too many and hence it was time the security up their game to fish out the criminals. President J.A Kufuor further blamed the increase in crime on the social media and an improvement in technology hence calling on the security agency to up their game.
