Nigeria: 6 pro-Biafra protesters shot dead in Aba

Umuahia - Six persons were killed and another 20 injured in Tuesday’s protest by the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) in Aba, Abia State, The incident happened when the protesters clashed with security agencies. It was gathered that the protesters had gathered at National High School for prayers along Port Harcourt-Aba road, from where they usually march to other areas of the city when security agents swooped on them.
 Attempts by the security operatives to arrest leaders of the group were resisted. The operatives later opened fire and allegedly shot dead six protesters in the process. The operatives then arrested the group’s Aba Coordinator identified as Ikechukwu and some of his assistants. The situation caused tension in the area as shop owners and residents scampered to safety. Motorists avoided the route of the clash in order not to be caught in the crossfire.
