Executives of the Ghana Committed Drivers Association have declared their intention to embark on a nationwide strike if government does not review the 500 percent increase in insurance premium. The association, which has over 500 members nationwide drawn from the Ghana Private Transport Union(GPRTU), Progressive Transport Owners Association(PROTOA),Trailer Drivers Union, among others, gave the warning at a press conference held at the Obra Square, Accra last Wednesday.

Some mourners at the funeral of the late Bantamahene, Baffour Asare Owusu Amankwatiah V reportedly hooted at the President, John Dramani Mahama and his entourage at the funeral grounds. According to Nhyira FM’s Ruthy Danielson, who was at the funeral grounds, the mourners - clad in black and carried the flag of the NPP - started hooting at the President after the arrival of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo at the funeral grounds.

Accra - The Electoral Commission (EC) has rolled out series of activities for the conduct of the 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections including the revision and exhibition of the voters' roll. Accra: 30 apartments in flames at Spintex
About 30 apartments have been torched by fire at Kotobabi Junction at Spintex. The wild fire, which is fast spreading is believed to have sparked from a nearby factory. He said the police need to beef up their team at the fire scene because “the crowd is getting out of control” as people run for their lives as others try to salvage leftover belongings.

Francis Kwarteng Arthur, Director of the Information Service Department (ISD) has been sacked, a government statement on Thursday has revealed. “Mr Francis Kwarteng Arthur has been relieved of his duties as acting Director of the Information Services Department,” the statement signed by Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah said. Mr Kwarteng has been in the spotlight for taking responsibility for errors in this year’s Independence Day anniversary brochure that was riddled with many factual and grammatical inaccuracies.

Prices of most basic foodstuffs have shot up drastically over the last one year. The prices of some of the foodstuffs have risen as much as 50% from January 2015 to date. A market survey conducted by The Finder at major markets in Accra revealed significant hikes in prices of foodstuffs such as vegetables, tubers, cereals, and canned and frozen foods.

Information Services Department (ISD) workers have petitioned President John Dramani Mahama stating that their job has been taken over by Presidential staffer Stan Dogbe. In a petition signed on behalf of the concerned staff by Mr Yaw D. Mensah, the workers said their work on national events has stalled since the presidential staffer assumed his current position. “…since Stan Dogbe assumed his current position as a presidential staffer at the Office of the President, the work of ISD in relation to the national event has stalled. The core mandate has since been handled by Mr Dogbe ever since,” portions of the petition read.

ABUJA—THE only surviving son of the late Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Barrister Aaron Ocholi, has promised to retain all the legacies of his father. Aaron Ocholi who is 25 years, according to family sources, was saved from following his father to attend the Church service in Kaduna due to an ankle injury he sustained while training on a football pitch. Nigerian Army on Friday said the troops of 81 Battalion and 251 Task Force Battalion of 25 Task Force Brigade, 7 Division have destroyed the spiritual power base of Boko Haram located inside Alagarno forest in Borno State. The Army also announced in a statement the rescue of 63 persons who were in the captivity of the sect during separate operations at Lawin Meleri, Matiri Bulaka and Aljeri villages.
