Commercial Drivers Threaten Nationwide Strike March 14

Executives of the Ghana Committed Drivers Association have declared their intention to embark on a nationwide strike if government does not review the 500 percent increase in insurance premium. The association, which has over 500 members nationwide drawn from the Ghana Private Transport Union(GPRTU), Progressive Transport Owners Association(PROTOA),Trailer Drivers Union, among others, gave the warning at a press conference held at the Obra Square, Accra last Wednesday.

Two persons accused of having sex with a 13-year-old mentally-deranged at Mayera near Amasaman have appeared before an Accra Circuit Court. Charged with two counts of defilement, David Adzeole, a barber and Alexander Amesenya, a labourer, have pleaded not guilty.

A GANG OF four young women, who are said to be snatchers of vehicles from their owners at gun or knifepoint, have been arrested by the police. They are Agnes Darkoa aka Last Killer, Ernestina Amponsah aka Akosua Frimpomaa, Mavis Addo aka Maame Konadu and Sally Sarpong. They were apprehended after they had allegedly robbed a taxi driver of his money and mobile phone at knifepoint.

A mother was gang-raped in front of her three-year-old daughter by attackers who killed her two-week-old son before assaulting the woman on a bus in India. The 28-year-old had been visiting her sister when the bus pulled into a station in the town of Shishgarh in northern India's Uttar Pradesh State.

About 30 apartments have been torched by fire at Kotobabi Junction at Spintex. The wild fire, which is fast spreading is believed to have sparked from a nearby factory. Prices of most basic foodstuffs have shot up drastically over the last one year. The prices of some of the foodstuffs have risen as much as 50% from January 2015 to date. Information Services Department (ISD) workers have petitioned President John Dramani Mahama stating that their job has been taken over by Presidential staffer Stan Dogbe. In a petition signed on behalf of the concerned staff by Mr Yaw D. Mensah, the workers said their work on national events has stalled since the presidential staffer assumed his current position. “…since Stan Dogbe assumed his current position as a presidential staffer at the Office of the President, the work of ISD in relation to the national event has stalled. The core mandate has since been handled by Mr Dogbe ever since,” portions of the petition read.

ABUJA—THE only surviving son of the late Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Barrister Aaron Ocholi, has promised to retain all the legacies of his father. Aaron Ocholi who is 25 years, according to family sources, was saved from following his father to attend the Church service in Kaduna due to an ankle injury he sustained while training on a football pitch. He was on crutches at the time the father and some members of the family embarked on the fatal trip.

HLL Lifecare on Tuesday distributed free packs of its sanitary napkins to women prisoners of Attakulangara Sub Jail to mark International Women's Day. The napkins were distributed free of cost to the inmates, an HLL release said.

According to Punch, the Ocholi's family was working on some theories concerning the accident that happened on Sunday.

Beijing - Police in a northern Chinese city have broken up a major toxic waste case that came to light when a restaurant owner died after inhaling poisonous gases coming from his kitchen drain, state media said Monday.
