Benjamin Akwei [INSET: Anago Macho] |
ASP Effia Tengey, Accra Regional police spokeswoman, confirmed the arrest of Michael to DAILY GUIDE. The gang emerged last year after the arrest and prosecution of four suspected armed robbers who were terrorizing residents of the area.
Their modus operandi was attacking mostly women in their rooms with machetes and other deadly weapons and sometimes raped them and took away their valuables. . When Benjamin Akwei was arrested in March this year, eight female victims, including a police woman, two bankers and a nurse who claimed to have been robbed, visited the police station – where Akwei was sent – to identify him in an identification parade.
When Akwei was interrogated, he admitted to the offence and further led the police to the victims’ houses to demonstrate how they (he and his accomplices) entered the houses, raped and robbed their victims. He also mentioned Michael as the leader of the gang and Anago Macho as an accomplice. Meanwhile, Michael Appiah is being prepared for court.
