Atebubu: Sanja Nanja in more trouble as queenmother sues for defamation

Sanja Nanja, Member of Parliament (MP) for Atebubu-Amantin constituency, has been sued by the queenmother for the area, Nana Afuah Denyina for defamation of character. Sanja Nanja was reported to have accused the queen mother on Accra based radio station Pink FM of supporting the former District Chief Executive, Sampson Owusu Boateng and branded her a drunkard. This angered the Atebubu-Amantin Traditional Council leading to his ban from all public functions in the town. They also accused the MP of being in contempt after he disrespected the queen mother, Nana Afia Donyina, calling her a drunkard after she accused him of being behind a recent disturbance in the area.

Though Mr Nanja has rendered an unqualified apology to the Atebubu Traditional Council for insulting the Queen, Nana Afuah Denyina is of the firm belief that the defamatory words has provoked “public dissatisfaction” against her and exposed her to public ridicule and contempt.

Nana Afuah Denyina in a press release signed by her secretary, Kofi Amofa is praying the court to award damages against the MP in the sum of GHC 500,000.00. The queenmother also want the court to place a perpetual injunction to restrain the defendant from writing, printing and publishing further words and statements of defamatory of the plaintiff.
