Three Burkinabes have been arrested by the Tafo Police in the Ashanti Region after they attempted to register during Ghana’s ongoing limited voter registration exercise. The exercise, which is meant to update the voter roll ahead of the November elections, has been characterised by violence at some centres, with the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) accusing each other of indulging in malpractices. The alertness of the polling agents uncovered the Burkinabes. He said the Burkinabes were suspected to be foreigners when they could not communicate in English, Hausa or Twi. Upon further interrogation they admitted to being Burkinabes.
Although they were 10 in number, seven including one woman took to their heels while three were arrested by the Tafo Police. Police said an investigation was underway.
