Commuters onboard a commercial vehicle (Trotro) from the Kwesimintsim area in the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis to the Central Business District of the twin-city were dumbfounded when one of them reportedly fell down and died after alighting at the vehicle’s final destination on Thursday. According to some of the people, who were at the scene, the deceased, who was yet to be identified and believed to be in his 60s, was travelling from Kwesimintsim to Takoradi with some luggage. The people indicated that because the main Kwesimintsim lorry park was congested with vehicles, it was difficult for the Trotro driver to enter, and so upon reaching a place a few metres away, he stopped for the passengers to alight.
Some of the people said they saw the man coming down from the vehicle with his luggage and that the moment he alighted, he fell down. Later they realized that he was motionless. They suspected that he might have been sick for sometime and had probably been discharged from a prayer camp to go home with his bag and a mat. When contacted, leaders of the drivers’ union were not forthcoming with any information on the matter. “We have informed the police but we don’t know why they are not here,” they indicated. As at 10:45 am the body was still lying on the ground, as scores of people had thronged there to catch a glimpse of it.
