New NDC Voters Register In Flames At Atebubu

REPORTS COMING from the Atebubu-Amantin Constituency of the Brong-Ahafo Region indicate that supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for the area, Sanja Nanja, have set ablaze biometric registers that were to be exhibited ahead of the
party’s upcoming presidential and parliamentary primaries on November 7. Executives of the constituency on Thursday reportedly burnt the party’s voter register to ashes following suspicion of foul play by some aspirants. Constituency chairman, George Kyereh Mensah, justified the action, stating that the very register they had received rather contained names of members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) – a development he described as “a bit strange.” Some executives who allegedly support Mr Sanja Nanja are suspecting the District Chief Executive (DCE), Sampson Owusu Boateng, of foul play. Some members of the Regional Electoral Committee had gone to present biometric registers to the Constituency Electoral Committee at the party office at Atebubu. In order to ascertain the number of voters in the registers polling station by polling station, the Constituency Electoral Committee decided to count the names in the registers using mobile phones to make sure the names tallied. In the course of doing that in the party’s office, a supporter of the MP, named only as Sadat, allegedly rushed into the room and bolted with portions of the biometric registers. The constituency secretary, Sulley Saaka, according to the information, also got angry and threw the rest of the registers into the air in the room. Because ceiling fans were said to be on in the room, it scattered some of the leaves. Sanja Nanja’s supporters later came around and purportedly set the rest of the registers ablaze. The case was reported to the Atebubu police who came to guard the party office in order that it wouldn’t be burnt down by the irate supporters.
