Update:: Tamale Baby Thief Arrested At Karaga

The 27-year-old lactating mother, Limah Addo, whose baby was reportedly stolen, is a happy woman now. A 38-year old Vida Golomesio who stole a baby from the Tamale Hospital will on Monday be arraigned at theTamale District Magistrate Court. The suspect who is currently in the custody of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service has been provisionally charged with baby theft. Northern Regional Coordinator of DOVVSU, Mr. Emmanuel Horlatu disclosed that the suspect in the course of interrogation took ill and was rushed to the hospital for treatment. “She is well now and we are continuing the process of interrogating her to establish culpability in the
crime.” She has also failed to disclose exactly where she was heading to before her arrest by residents of the community who first took her to the chief’s palace before handing her over to the police.  Vida Golomesio was arrested at a farming community near Karaga in the Northern Region with a stolen baby boy. Mr. Horlatu admitted that the suspect had overstayed the mandated period in police detention but disclosed that no relation has shown up to grant her bail. “She is entitled to bail per the crime she committed but no one has come forward to seek her bail” He expressed fear the suspect could flee if granted self-recognizance bail maintaining it was for that reason police were holding on to her. She revealed to officials of DOVVSU in Tamale that the infant belongs to her sister but till date is unable to mention the name of the said sister to police investigators. The baby it has been established belongs to 27-year-old Limah Addo who two days after delivery had the child mysteriously missing after the suspect stole it under the pretext of assisting them get a taxi cab home.
