A 27-year-old lactating mother, Limah Addo, who is yet to come to terms with the reality that she has lost her son, has for the past days remained grief-stricken and refuses to eat. Her two-day-old baby boy delivered at the Tamale Hospital at the weekend has mysteriously gone missing. Her Elder brother, Agbeko Emmanuel disclosed that his sister who had been in labour days earlier was referred to the facility until she was delivered of a bouncing baby boy. After her discharge, Nuwokpo Limah 75-year-old mother of the victim in the company of a 10-year-old decided to get a taxi cab by the road side to convey them home but an unknown woman parading at the maternity ward of the
hospital as a philanthropist during their stay at the facility offered to help by taking the baby while she rushed to the roadside to get the cab. On her return, however, the unnamed woman with the baby was nowhere to be found within the hospital, raising suspicion. Agbeko revealed that the family searched round the hospital but there was no glimpse of the “philanthropist” resulting in the matter being reported to the Tamale police. “We traced at almost all the bus terminals within the metropolis with the hope of seeing my nephew but to no avail,” he indicated. Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) ASP Ebenezer Tetteh who confirmed the incident, disclosed that surveillance have been mounted for the baby thief believed to be in her late 60s. Meanwhile, hospital authorities have declined comment on the matter when contacted. They hinted that management will officially state its position on the issue after an emergency meeting.
