Ghana: Residents Run For Cover In Bimbilla Again;

Residents of Bimbilla in the Northern Region are said to be closing their shops and running away from the markets towards their homes following fears of possible clashes between two powerful families. The situation, according to a local journalist, Mohammed Ameen, was triggered by the construction of a shed by one of the royal gates, the Nakpa-Naa in front of their house, much to the displeasure of the Andani gate. This has caused panic among residents who fear the move may trigger violence between the two main royal gates. “As we speak, people have run back home and the town is deserted.

The tension has been there since morning. The Nakpa-Naa side are trying to put up a building at their house but the Andani side says no. I went out and saw people running and I had too,” he said. He added that there is heavy security in the town to prevent any attacks. The Bimbilla township has been under curfew for some time now following the recurrent violence recorded over the years. The conflict is caused by a protracted chieftaincy dispute.
