Samuel Owusu, 35 suspected to be a car snatcher has been lynched at Olebu, near Accra, by an angry mob. He was beaten to pulp by the angry mob after the owner of a Toyota Highlander vehicle raised an alarm that his car had been snatched. The vehicle has since been retrieved by the Amasaman Police. Deputy Commission of Police (DCOP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, said the incident happened about 7 a.m. on November 28, 2015. He said the owner of the vehicle, whose name is being withheld, had displayed his unregistered Toyota Highlander for sale and Owusu had expressed interest in buying the vehicle. Owusu then asked the owner of the vehicle to allow him to test drive it, “ but in the course of the test drive, he sped off with the vehicle, leaving it’s owner behind.”
The victim immediately contacted the Amasaman District Patrol team who gave Owusu a hot chase. When it became difficult for him to outrun the police, Mr Yohuno said, Owusu abandoned the vehicle at Olebu on the Pokuase-Ablekuma highway. However, Mr Yohuno said Owusu, who attempted an escape, was apprehended by some residents who subjected him to severe beatings. “When the police got to the scene, he was being beaten mercilessly. He was rescued and sent to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival,” Mr Yohuno said.
