Four persons died on the spot when a sachet water distribution Kia truck with registration number WR 2039-10 ran into a crowd that had gathered at a wedding reception at Upper Dixcove, a fishing community in the Western Region.
The deceased include a 28-year-old pregnant woman, a 12-year-old girl, a student of Axim Girls Senior High School called Priscilla, and a middle-aged woman. They all died instantly when the Kia truck carrying sachet water had break failure on a hill at Dixcove and ran over the victims at the marriage ceremony. Bodies of the deceased were deposited at the Dixcove Government Hospital morgue while those who sustained injuries were hospitalized in the same health facility for treatment.

The Assembly Member for Lower Dixcove, Emmanuel Bentum, confirmed the tragic incident and said the incident happened on Sunday, January 10, 2016 at about 3pm. The incident has thrown the fishing community of Dixcove into sorrow and mourning. About ten persons, including the driver’s mate who sustained various degrees of injuries, are said to be responding to treatment at the hospital. The driver of the truck whose name was given only as David is on the run and that the bride who collapsed out of shock had been resuscitated.
