Nana Akufo Addo, Bawumiah Storm Kumasi Stadium As Head Porters Rush For NPP Tickets

Ahead of this year’s elections, a renwed spirit of commitment and volunteerism is taking over in the camp of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region. More supporters are clamoring for tickets to participate in the upcoming fundraising ceremony slated for Saturday.
Tickets for the maiden programme, geared towards mobilising funds for the party, are selling like hot cake, as supporters troop in and out of the regional office of the party to grab their tickets. Bigwigs of the party, including Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo and his running mate, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, are expected to grace the occasion to be held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The two personalities, would demonstrate leadership by purchasing their tickets in order to encourage others to do same. Tickets ranging from GHC15, GHC20, GHC50 and GHC100 have been on sale over the past few weeks as part of efforts to raise funds towards the party’s 2016 elections. The party’s office yesterday morning at Krofrom, was flooded with party supporters who had come to purchase tickets. Interestingly, one major group of people who have overwhelmingly patronised the programme are the head porters, commonly known as ‘Kayayes’, who operate their businesses in the Kumasi metropolis.

The head porters, according to sources close to the party, have purchased as much as 1,875 tickets to participate in the occasions. They were said to have been mobilised by their leader and chairman of the Head Porters Association in the region, Adiza Moshie Zongo, who is also an ardent critic of the President Mahama-led administration. The programme is under the auspices of the Regional Fundraising Committee chaired by Mrs. Janet Annan. According to the Personal Assistant to the Regional Chairman of the NPP, Andy Owusu, supporters who will patronise the programme would also be thrilled to various entertainment shows from popular musicians and comedians. He further said the programme will be preceded by a float on Friday through some principal streets of Kumasi.
