KWAKU Afari, a 44-year-old cocoa farmer, has met his untimely death when he was reportedly attacked by an antelope in his farm at Nyamesomyede near Kwabenakwa in the Obuasi municipality of the Ashanti Region. The herbivore, which is not known for attacking humans, was said to have pierced the chest of the cocoa farmer with its horns in a struggle, while trying to kill the game. The incident, which greatly shocked the grandson and the wife of Mr. Afari, took place Saturday afternoon at the cocoa farm. Police said the victim and his wife together with their grandson were splitting some cocoa pods when the hunting dog of the man surfaced with the antelope which it (dog) had chased from a nearby bush.
Mr Kwaku Afari, bubbling with excitement, rushed with intent to prey the antelope, but he was attacked in the process by the wild mammal that was struggling to free itself. . The 44-year-old farmer, after killing the animal, died later from injuries he sustained when he was being sent to the hospital for treatment. Residents of Kwabenakwa have since buried the carcass as the remains of Kwaku Afari had been deposited at the hospital, awaiting autopsy.
