Ghana: 18-year-old boy jailed 7 years for raping 14-year-old

Accra - A teenage driver from Breman Brakwa, Ghana has been sentenced to seven years in prison with hard labour for raping a 14-year-old girl. According to the Ghana News Agency, Elijah Amoaning, 18, pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement and was sentenced on his plea.
The complainant, the victim's mother, Abena Afauh lived in the same neighbourhood with Amoaning. She said that she found out that he was having sexual relations with her daughter three months ago, and warned him that if he did not desist she would report him. When he did not listen, Afuah reported him to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) where an investigation was opened.

During this time, Afuah claimed that Amoaning seduced her daughter again, resulting in her phoning the police, who then arrested him. Meanwhile, the chief of Amanfrom in the Greater Accra region, Nii Kwarshie Gbolor, was arrested for allegedly raping a woman who visited his palace. According to a police charge sheet, the 49-year-old chief forced himself onto the victim, Dorenda Fey, 20, after she had visited him in his palace in January last year.
