Kwadwo Mpiani, former chief of staff under the Kufuor administration has insisted that Paul Afoko is still the national chairman of the New Patriotic Party, despite being on suspension. The National Executive Committee of the NPP has suspended Afoko and two other national executives – Kwabena Agyepong, the General Secretary and the first vice chairman Sammy Crabbe – for allegedly working against the party.
According to Mpiani, he does not recognise the sanctions against Afoko, whom he described as “a fine gentleman.” “He is still the chairman,” Mpiani insisted. “The party was wrong.. Asked whether the NPP was ready to snatch power from the NDC, Mpiani said: “We are ready for power except that we have some problems to solve. It should be done as soon as possible.”
Afoko has been on indefinite suspension for allegedly working against the fortunes of the main opposition party since late 2015. The trio are in court challenging the decision of the National Executive Council.
