Evil and falsehood campaign against me won’t Work - Akufo Addo

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party, (NPP) has parried the aggressive efforts by his detractors to label him a violent person. According to him, the falsehood being spread against him is only to score cheap political points and also because the National Democratic Congress (NDC) lacked message for Ghanaians in the run-up to the elections. Nana Addo’s observations comes in the wake of the recent arrest of three South African ex-police officers who were said to be providing training for the security orderlies of the NPP presidential and vice presidential candidates.

“Everyone in Ghana will attest to the fact that I am a very patient man. Patience is one of my characteristics. I am not and have never been a violent person. Opponents, for their selfish political interests, spew out falsehoods all in their bid to smear my reputation. It has not worked and it will not work, because Ghanaians have seen through the lies,” he said.

He pointed out that if there was any trace of violence in him it would have popped out in 2012 elections if truly he was one. “If I was truly a violent person, in 2012 I could perhaps have caused an inferno to engulf the nation in the aftermath of the disputed election results of 2012, and the close nature of the Supreme Court’s election petition verdict. I love Ghana more than myself, and that is why nothing of that sort happened”, he stated.

The NPP flagbearer assured Ghanaians that NPP would not be the one to initiate any disturbance in the country during and after the conduct of the general elections. “The NPP is a firm believer in democracy. The founding fathers of our political tradition, some of whom died bitterly and tragically in prison without trial in defense of their principles, fought for multi-party democracy.

We, the adherents of this tradition, will not be the ones to undermine democracy. We will surely educate our supporters, but we will not allow anyone to cheat us. That will never happen,” he added. Nana Akufo-Addo made this known when he paid a courtesy call on the newly installed Paramount Chief of the Kumawu Traditional Area, Barima Sarfo Tweneboa Kodua.
