A 36-year-old man has been arrested and remains in the custody of the police at the headquarters of the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, of the Imo Police Command, Owerri after he slapped his wife to death.
The trouble, according to police, started on June 1 when the man’s wife, Chikodi, 32 asked him to give N100 to her son from an earlier marriage to take to school, However, the man, only identified as Anele told her that he did not have the money.
Narrating the tale, Anele said: "You see, my late wife was hypertensive; she became very angry that I did not give my stepson N100. She started to insult me. I got angry and slapped her."
The wife slapped him in return and this angered Anele, who slapped her a second time and she fell down and fainted. Anele said he rushed her to the hospital where she was pronounced dead, thus leading to his arrest. The couple had two children from their marriage.
