Nairobi - Murang’a police commander Naomi Ichami has ordered investigations into reports that a 31-year-old man was severely injured on his private parts by police officers during arrest. The man identified as Joseph Mwangi was allegedly harassed and his manhood mutilated by security officers attached at Kangoci Police Station, Kiharu constituency, on suspicion that he was carrying bhang.
“If it is found that he was manhandled the responsible officers will be held accountable,” Ichami said. Mwangi’s relatives said he was apprehended at a local pub where he was selling soup before being undressed.
“They undressed his trousers and started pulling his private parts leaving him with serious injuries. He was taken to hospital for treatment before being taken to police cells,” said his aunt Jane Wanjiku.
Nonetheless, Mwangi was arraigned before court where he denied the charge of peddling bhang and was released on KES 50,000 bond.
