Ibrahim Mahama |
“This Mahama-led administration has really taken us for granted, and I
won’t allow that to happen. I will continue speaking the truth till the
truth prevails,”This is a quote from the Member of Parliament for Assin North in the Central Region, Kennedy Agyapong. He has alleged that construction firm, Engineers and Planners, owned by President John Mahama's brother was paid 200 million dollars to dredge the Odaw River after the twin fire and flood disaster. Kennedy Agyapong's claims come after the Minority demanded Ibrahim Mahama to pay full cost of government equipment used for the project. Minority spokesperson on Local Government, Kwesi Ameyaw Kyeremeh at a press conference in Accra on Thursday, claimed the equipment was procured solely for distribution to Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, and not to be given to private companies. However, the Minister for Local Government, Alhaji Collins Dauda said the call by the Minority is misplaced. He explained that Engineers and Planners opted to dredge the Odaw River for free because
the AMA did not have the expertise to use the equipment. Collins Dauda has asked the Minority to produce evidence that government paid Ibrahim Mahama $200m for the job. But Ken Agyapong stated unequivocally that the president’s brother was paid $200 million for the job on Asempa FM's Ekosii Sen programme on Thursday, The Assin Central MP could not fathom why the sector Minister will tell such a "blatant lie" to Ghanaians just to protect his job. "Collins Dauda should be very careful because he could go to jail for this. You can't suppress information from the public forever," he added. Kennedy Agyapong commended his colleagues in Parliament for championing the cause and urged them to ensure that the president’s brother did not 'get away with murder'. “Yes, I’m satisfied with the questions my colleagues asked during the press conference but I’m charging them (government) to immediately come out and explain things to us because they are not being truthful with us,” he stated.
