For the first time, Kenya topped the medal table at the World Athletics Championships in Beijing. The Victorious athletes returned home to a hero's welcome when they were received at Jomo Kenyatta airport in Nairobi by thousands of supporters, led by Deputy President William Ruto. Mr Ruto hosted a special breakfast to honour the team at his residence. Kenya won seven gold, six silver and three bronze medals to finish top. Among the athletes who arrived on Tuesday were deputy team captain Vivian Cheruiyot who recaptured her 10,000 metres title and history-making Julius Yego (javelin) and Nicholas Bett (400 metres hurdles). There were also Ezekiel Kemboi and Hyvin Jepkemoi who triumphed in the men's and women's 3,000 metres steeplechase respectively.
