Information reaching us indicates that Leaders of the pressure group, Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMVC) are bent on presenting their petition to the Electoral Commission on October 8th via demonstration. The police dropped charges against thirteen leaders of the group, who
were to appear before court on Thursday. The police claimed the thirteen
leaders played roles during a clash between the demonstrators and police, during a protest for a new Voters register. Meanwhile leaders of the pressure group, are preparing to sue the Police Service for allegedly brutalizing some members of the group during a street protest in Accra. One of the leaders of the group, Ibrahim Adjei, said their lawyers are in the process of filing a suit at the court over the conduct of police officers during the violent demonstration. "Presently our lawyers are preparing the necessary paperwork to file a suit against the Police. You cannot be horse-whipped and sit down quietly because you are not fighting for yourself, you are fighting for all other Ghanaians in order to make sure that when we take a class action and take the Police to court for the brutalities that they meted out to we Ghanaians, there could be some progress. “So yes! We are taking the Police to court over the brutalities because it will be a disservice not only to our rights, but it will also give a green light to every other person who will want to demonstrate for their rights,” noted Adjei.
