Twenty one of the Magistrate and Circuit court judges whose complicity has been established in the judicial corruption scandal exposed by journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas have been sacked. One other, who is yet to be identified, has been reprimanded.
The Chief Justice Theodora Georgina Wood made the disclosure at a press briefing in Accra today. Seven out of 12 High court judges who were also implicated in the scandal are already serving suspension. Presenting the report of the Judicial Council’s investigations into the scandal that has impacted negatively on the reputation of Ghana’s judiciary, Mrs. Georgina Wood noted, that the judges who showed remorse following the expose’ will be given severance packages while those who denied their involvement in spite of the evidence against them, will be ignored.
Two-year in-depth investigations, by ace undercover journalist Anas, exposed the corrupt deals of some Judges who collected bribes to compromise cases before them. He petitioned the Chief Justice Georgina Wood to impeach the implicated judges as well as sack over a 100 Judicial Service staff who were filmed receiving bribes.
