All bank accounts of the embattled former head of the National Health Insurance Authority Sylvester Mensah have been frozen. An Accra Financial and Economic court issued the order for the accounts to be frozen Thursday following an ex-parte application made by the Financial Intelligence Center.
The financial intelligence unit (FIU) serves as a national centre for the receipt and analysis of: (a) suspicious transaction reports; and (b) other information relevant to money laundering, associated predicate offences and financing of terrorism. The former Member of Parliament for La Dade-Kotopon is being probed for some alleged financial malfeasance at the NHIA under his tenure. The BNI is reportedly investigating him over false claims paid to some health providers working with the Insurance scheme.
