Organised labour has warned it will hit the streets next week if government does not withdraw the recent fuel increment and utility tariffs. In a statement after a meeting between the various labour unions in the country Thursday, the TUC said it is reckless for government to keep piling taxes on the already “burdened” Ghanaian.
“Organised Labour gives government up to the close of day (18hrs GMT) on Wednesday, 13 January 2016 to meet these demands. If these demands are not met by the said date, Organised Labour would unleash series of nationwide actions.
“The meeting decried the lazy recourse to taxation and its attendant economic and social hardships on the already overburdened Ghanaian by government,” the statement said. Government has increased the prices of petroleum products between 18 and 28 percent. The move comes on the back of a recent announcement of an increment in utility tariffs by the PURC.
