A desperate rescue effort is underway in the waters of Mankrado in the Volta Region where a ferry carrying 500 people is reported to be sinking. The ferry was heading to Yeji in the Northern Volta but the load on the ferry appears to be too heavy.
According to an eye witness, the ferry is carrying "four strong cargo cars" some of which are carrying other goods including yams. The witness said water has entered into the ferry as passengers scramble to survive what could well be a disaster. Some of the passengers are said to be pumping water out of the ferry to keep it afloat whilst they pray for external intervention. Already two boats have come to the rescue of the passengers with several others still hoping to survive the scary incident.
