Man sets son ablaze in Kwara

A 22-year-old man in Omu-Aran, Kwara State, Sola Akangbe, died in the early hours of Saturday following wounds from a fire allegedly set on him by his biological father, Kehinde. The deceased, a wheelbarrow pusher, was said to have suffered high degree burns and was confirmed dead by doctors at Ajisafe Hospital, Omu-Aran, where he was rushed to by the police on Friday.

Charlotte Osei dares Progressive Nationalist Forum To File A Petition Against Her

Charlotte Osei, the boss of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, has dared those alleging that she is involved in a conflict of interest by holding another public office to “file a petition” against her. A pro-New Patriotic Party pressure group Progressive Nationalist Forum is demanding the resignation of the EC boss for holding on to her board membership slot of Ghana Reinsurance Company Limited while serving as chairperson of the electoral management body.

A police officer and fiancée of Anthony Anyomi, a 34-year-old student who posed as a lawyer, on Thursday broke down and wept bitterly, pleading with her senior colleague police officers to temper justice with mercy and not prosecute her fiancé, whom she was scheduled to wed today.

Pressure group, Progressive Nationalist Forum (PNF), is calling for the head of the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Charlotte Osei, for allegedly compromising her position. Organised labour has warned it will hit the streets next week if government does not withdraw the recent fuel increment and utility tariffs. In a statement after a meeting between the various labour unions in the country Thursday, the TUC said it is reckless for government to keep piling taxes on the already “burdened” Ghanaian.

Court freezes Sylvester Mensah’s bank accounts

Durban – The stabbed and strangled body of a KwaZulu-Natal businessman, who was reported missing on Tuesday night, has been found at a primary school in Tongaat, north of Durban.

The debt owed the 11 power distribution companies by the three tiers of government has risen to N45bn, according to the latest data compiled by the Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors. It was learnt that the debt, which rose from N32bn some months ago to the present N45bn, was accumulated by the Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the three tiers of government since November 1, 2013 when the power firms were officially handed over to private investors.
