Nov polls: Duncan-Williams prays for ‘wide’ victory margin

Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams has said “we need to pray that this time around, whoever wins, the margin will be so wide that it will be impossible to dispute it.” as Ghana goes to the polls to elect a president in November. The founder of Action Chapel international is, therefore, organizing special prayer sessions together with other men of God from May 2, to pray towards the election, as well as on several other issues concerning the country’s welfare.

Ahead of election 2016, the New Patriotic Party has pushed for an alternative funding strategy to ensure an effective election campaign and victory for the party. The party recently launched a fundraising campaign to allow party members, sympathizers, donors and every Ghanaian who believe in their course to contribute via phone recharging cards.

Jerry John Rawlings former President, has donated GHC5,000 to the 16-year-old boy who was bathed in acid by a tenant of his dad's. The money is to help cushion the cost of medical bills accrued at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra for his treatment. Andy Dodoo sustained severe acid burns after a tenant Suleyman Yuguda poured the corrosive substance on him following a misunderstanding with his father.

At least one person has been confirmed dead and a Police officer shot in renewed clashes between two rival Bimoba families at Sayuoo, a community near Napkanduri in the Northern region.

Several houses have also been torched in the tensions which started Sunday afternoon. Sources say the clash was triggered by a misunderstanding over a parcel of land,

Ghana: Nana Addo appeals to eligible Ghanaians to register

Leader of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is calling on eligible Ghanaians to participate in the upcoming limited voters registration exercise.

The exercise has been scheduled to start from Thursday, April 28 and end on Sunday, May 8.

The nationwide exercise under the auspices of the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) is expected to register new voters for the 2016 elections.

On his official Twitter account, Nana Addo asked his followers to “spread the word” on the exercise.

“Please spread the word about the registration exercise and register,” he tweeted on Sunday, April 24.

He hash-tagged the tweet ‘Change Is Coming’ and ‘Register For Change’.

Nana Addo’s campaign on Twitter follows that of President John Dramani Mahama, who is spotted in an advertisement by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), persuading young eligible Ghanaians to register.

ECOWAS: Vehicle Owners To Obtain ECOWAS Brown Card Effective June 1

With effect from June 1, 2016 all vehicle owners in Ghana will have to obtain an ECOWAS Brown Card insurance certificate to ensure prompt and fair compensation to victims of motor accident caused by non-citizen motorists from other ECOWAS member states.

Nana Akyemfuor Asiedu Agyeman III with President Mahama

Some chiefs in Kwahu in the Eastern region have performed a ritual to pacify the gods of the land following the endorsement of President John Mahama by the acting Kwahumanhene.

The action by Nana Akyemfuor Asiedu Agyeman III who is also the President of Kwahu Traditional Council, according to the aggrieved chiefs has angered the gods of the land.

In other to save the land from the wrath of the gods and ancestors, they performed some rituals with schnapps and sheep to cleanse the land at the Abetifi palace before Akwasidae celebration.

Asantehene: Chiefs should desist from declaring their support for political parties

Otumfuo Osei Tutu the second is asking chiefs to desist from openly declaring their support for political parties ahead of the November polls. The Asantehene warned of dire consequences for chiefs who continually meddle in partisan politics.

A 16-year-old boy has sustained severe acid burns after a tenant poured a corrosive substance on him over a misunderstanding with his dad. According to Andy, he had tried to stop the tenant from attacking his [Andy’s] father when the substance which was contained in a bucket was poured on him and four others in his family on February 15, 2016.

A MAN in his 20s, Okala Joseph, is alleged to have done the unimaginable by shooting his wife dead, in the presence of his mother-in-law.
Joseph was said to have committed the dastardly act at Ninda village, Kokona Local Government Area, Nasarawa State.

WATCH: Severed snake slithers out of chopped tree

Disturbing footage has surfaced of a severed snake slithering out of the middle of a chopped tree trunk. According to the Daily Star, the tree had been chopped in two, along with the snake, when the discovery was made.

The cameraman, Ryan Saunders, appears to squeal in horror as the alien-like reptile struggles to free its dying body from the tree's centre. Ryan races over to the other half of the trunk to find the bottom half of the snake still moving.

Woman finds Jesus in her ultrasound scan

An expectant mom claims to have spotted Jesus in her most recent ultrasound scan. According to the UK Metro, Alexandra Meyer was showing off pictures of her unborn baby to friends when one of them pointed out a familiar face in the background.

After taking time to consider what the sighting could mean, the bubbly mother-to-be revealed that she feels as though she has received God's blessing over her soon-to-be born son. Alexandra's grandmother has since bought her a crucifix to hang in her nursery in anticipation of her baby's arrival.

Half-bearded man poses for weirdest mugshot EVER!

Abuja - Police have released images of one of the weirdest mugshots on record to date. According to the UK Metro, the suspect, Kevin Gibson, was sporting a bushy beard at the time of his arrest - on one side of his face!

The other side of his face, finely shaven and neatly groomed, gave a new meaning to the phrase "two-faced". The Florida man was arrested in Miami for alleged possession of marijuana with intent to sell on Tuesday. He is currently being held on a $8,000 bond in a Miami prison.

Accra: Adidas ready to sponsor Black Stars

Global Sportswear brand, Adidas, has expressed its readiness to sponsor Ghana’s Senior football team, the Black Stars. The Black Stars are currently under contract with rival brand Puma, but Adidas openly declared the interest in affiliating their brand to the four-time African Cup of Nations winners.

Cape Coast - A Catholic Church in Cape Coast has banned what they call provocative dresses in the church by its members. The church has posted pictures of unapproved dresses on its premises. President of the St. John The Baptist Church in the Cape Coast town of Paedu, in the Central region, said some of the dresses are not fit for the church as some of them expose parts of those wearing them.

The Sene east District Head Pastor of the Apostolic church of Ghana and one of his church elders have been shot dead by suspected robbers. The two, Pastor Saki and Elder Ampah were killed Sunday morning on the Atebubu-Kumasi highway.

The Supreme Court has dismissed a joinder application by the People’s National Convention (PNC) in the lawsuit in which a former National Youth Organizer of the party, Abu Ramadan, and one Evans Nimako, are seeking a declaration that the current electoral roll is not credible for the November polls.

The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) has condemned attacks on three Danish journalists who were carrying out a report on mining in Ghana. According to MFWA, the journalists from Impact TV, a Denmark-based television station were harassed by security operatives who forcefully seized their filming equipment after they had taken footages at Saaman, a mining community in the Eastern region.

Oyo - A 60-year-old woman, Asabi Adebayo, has been arrested by the police in Oyo State for allegedly buying five babies at N5million from Port-Harcourt, Rivers State. The suspect, who planned to fly the babies abroad for sale, was said to have brought them to an orphanage in Ibadan to obtain a certified police report for them when the bubble burst.

Abuja – The former ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has come out in the open to say it is yet to recover from the fight that led former president Olusegun Obasanjo to tear his membership card. Obasanjo said at the time that his decision to dump the party came after he was accused of anti-party activities after he critically spoke against the then president, Goodluck Jonathan's administration.

Harare – A pastor who was caught caressing and fondling a married woman inside a car near a car park was brutally killed early this week, a report says.

Quoting the H-Metro, Metroafrique said the Zimbabwean pastor was spotted by the woman's husband in Harare.
It was alleged that the husband engaged the duo in a speed chase and caught up with them after the woman’s car fell into a ditch.

He then bundled the pastor into his car and drove away, only to come back to dump him at the accident scene. The pastor was said to be unconscious when he was dumped. He had been beaten to a pulp. He died later after he was taken to the hospital. Police confirmed that they had arrested the husband.

India: 10 guests killed as Wedding turns into tragedy

Patna - A fire has killed 10 guests after they attended a wedding in a village in eastern India. Police officer Sanjay Kumar says a thatched roof apparently caught fire where guests were sleeping after the wedding ceremonies ended.
Strong wind fanned the flames, and five women, two men and three children couldn't be rescued, Kumar said. Authorities are investigating the fire that occurred on Friday in Harinagar Tola, a village in Bihar state about 165km south of Patna, the state capital.
The bride and groom were not hurt. Fires are quite common during Indian weddings as people explode firecrackers or fire guns in the air during celebrations that ignore safety standards. - AP

Boko Haram: Money recovered as 4 notorious Boko Haram leaders arrested

Amidst massive raid of camps and ammunition dumps of Boko Haram across northern and central parts of Borno State, troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested four notorious leaders of the Islamic insurgency group responsible for recent attacks in that region, Army officials said.

Following the disagreements over Ghana’s voters’ register ahead of Presidential and parliamentary elections in November this year, the British High Commissioner to Ghana, Jon Benjamin, who earlier told Citi News that Britain did not have a view on the raging debate, has stated that no country can have a perfect voters’ register, adding that even the United Kingdom doesn’t have one.

President John Mahama has virtually endorsed the yet-to-be unveiled logo of the Electoral Commission (EC), describing the heated political debate being generated as a result of the commission’s decision as ‘needless.’ “Some parties have made it a penchant to continuously attack the Electoral Commission for reasons I can’t understand. This is the time to give the EC peace to do its work. …I mean how is a logo going to affect the quality of elections in this country?” the President said on Tuesday.

The Supreme Court has ordered two banks in Accra, to use all the money in Mr. Alfred Agbesi Woyome’s account to defray the GHC51.2million judgement debt he owes the state. Mr. Justice Annin Yeboah gave the order when three financial institutions appeared before him on Thursday, to give the statement of account of the judgement debtor (Woyome) following a garnishee order he granted the Attorney General’s Department about 10 days ago.

In a strange move, a middle aged blind man who could not cope with life as a result of a separation with his wife has allegedly committed suicide by hanging in Kumasi. Mobila Yanam, said to be in his 40s had tried two suicide attempts in the past. He was said to have drunk some poisonous substances in the earlier attempts but was treated at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and became blind about three years ago.

A day after 109 people were killed and 380 injured in the tragic fire incident in Kollam district of Kerala, three cars with 'explosives' were reportedly found near the Puttingal temple on Monday. Awe-stricken residents in the Sunyani Municipality, are still struggling to come over the shock when news about the alleged shooting and killing of a 21 year old mason last Saturday by his 23 years biological brother over GH₵ 110.00, started making the rounds.
