Abuja – The former ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has come out in the open to say it is yet to recover from the fight that led former president Olusegun Obasanjo to tear his membership card. Obasanjo said at the time that his decision to dump the party came after he was accused of anti-party activities after he critically spoke against the then president, Goodluck Jonathan's administration.
Punch reported on Saturday that the PDP blamed its former national chairperson Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, who it alleged empowered senator Buruji Kashamu to spite Obasanjo. PDP said it was yet to recover from the repercussions of the action of the former chairperson.
"We were deceived into fighting Obasanjo, a well respected man in Nigeria and outside the country. "It was our former chairman, Tukur, who (did that) because he thought he could cut him to size... It was the biggest mistake we ever made in the party," PDP's deputy national publicity secretary, Alhaji Ibrahim Jalo was quoted as saying.
