Bernard Antwi Bosiako aka Chairman Wontumi, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, has said the party has uncovered a ploy by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to bus non-residents of the Ashanti region to register. Speaking in an interview, the outspoken politician alleged that, a vehicle belonging to the National Security with registration number GC 2052-10 drove around last night in the region with a document he said was embossed with the signature of the General Secretary of the governing NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, with the inscription ‘’VIP’’ which was ordering the district officers of the EC to allow some persons believed to be supporters of the umbrella family, register although they are not residents.
Chairman Wontumi further alleged that, the NDC is planning with the EC to get more of their supporters to register in all the various registration centres in the region. He told the host that, the NPP will not allow the plot by the NDC to sail through because they will resist it.
He cautioned all persons who are not residents of the region to desist from registering since the NPP will not allow them to register. He also cautioned parents of wards who are about to register, and not residents of the region, to advice their children to stop what they have been paid to do.
Chairman Wontumi posited that, they will match the NDC and follow them closely to prevent their plan to bus non-resident of the region to register. Citing the C.I 91, the regional chairman said, it is only persons who have resided in the region for a year the chance to register, hence the NDC should take note.
He called on supporters of the party stationed at the various registration centres to be on guard. However, Raymond Tando Regional Secretary of the NDC, responding to the claims by Chairman Wontumi said, it was false and calculated to create unnecessary tension in the ongoing exercise.
He also accused Chairman Wontumi of busing people to the stronghold of the NDC to register them. According to him, the NDC in an attempt to prevent the plot by the NPP has adopted measures to prevent it and that is what has scared Wontumi to make his ‘wild’ allegation.
Raymond Tando opined that, Wontumi do not have the prerogative to prevent anyone from registering therefore he should stop flexing his muscles. He noted, if anyone has doubts on anyone who comes to register, they can only pick a challenge form but cannot stop them from registering.
