Mr. Anarfi Mensah announced that REGSEC was in the process of officially writing to the IGP and to the speaker of parliament to invite Mr Kwadwo Baah Agyeman to face REGSEC over his inciting remarks at a recent press conference. . He stated that the Ashanti Regional Police Command had also invited Owusu Bempah to question him over his incitement of the residents of Agogo to attack people of Fulani extraction, which had brought about chaos at the place.
Mr. Anarfi Mensah said REGSEC had come out with a roadmap, which he was sure, would go a long way to help bring lasting peace at Agogo and the nearby communities where there had been chaotic scenes leading to deaths. He claimed that in the short term, REGSEC had ordered that a joint police/military team should be sent to Agogo, starting today to late March, to protect life and property. The outgoing regional minister said the authorities concerned should come out with proper ways that would help track down the arrival and movement of the Fulani nomads at various entry points of the country.
Mr. Anarfi Mensah indicated that in the long term, REGSEC would implement policies and strategies that would help end the influx of Fulani nomads to Agogo and other areas adding, “Our objective is to get rid of nomadic Fulani herdsmen from Agogo.” He said emphatically that the security agencies, especially the police in the region, were on top of the security situation, urging the people of Agogo and the nearby areas to remain calm.
