Mob attacks EC officer

Daniel Akwetia, an official of the Electoral Commission (EC) in the Tain district of the Brong Ahafo Region has allegedly been attacked by a mob in the area. Daniel Akwetia has accused the former Member of Parliament for Tain constituency, Joe Danquah for masterminding the action.
Akwetia said as the EC official in the area, he called for a meeting with the various political party representatives to discuss issues surrounding the ongoing limited registration exercise. He said Mr. Danquah, who was supposed to represent the National Democratic Congress (NDC), refused to turn up for the meeting only to turn up later with a mob to attack him.

Akwetia said he was attacked because the former MP accused him of registering some ‘foreigners’ in the constituency, an allegation he insists never occurred. “I called for a meeting and the rep for NDC informed me that he won’t be a part of the meeting but he came later accusing me organizing a meeting without his consent but that was not the case.

“He later accused me of registering some Ewes living in a different constituency and sent some thugs to beat me up. I would have been dead if not for the timely intervention by the police” he said.
