The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu has revealed that Nana Akufo-Addo, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party was his personal lawyer, before he ascended the throne. According to the Asante monarch, the former attorney general never charged him legal fees for the many years that they moved as a lawyer and client. Addressing a gathering at the Manhyia palace when the NPP flagbearer paid a courtesy call on him Thursday, the Asantehene called on Akufo-Addo to endeavor to build on the achievements of the erstwhile Kufuor administration, if he is elected in the 2016 elections.

“Akufo-Addo was my lawyer before he got into frontline politics. He was not charging me any legal fee until the constitution came to being in 1992. At the time, I was following him wherever he went. I was not a King then, but now I have been installed a King and barred from taking stands in politics.

“So all I can say is that I want development for my people. If you win let us see the schools, industries, roads, hospitals and the many others, that’s all I want to see for my people as a king,” he said.

Otumfou also told the gathering that the NPP was birthed in the Ashanti region. “It is true the NPP started from here. From NLM to UP, it started from here. It was my uncle who gave the founders 700,000 pounds to begin the party. So the NPP started from here in the Ashanti region and it always been here”.
