Human Trafficking: 13 Children Rescued. Woman Arrested

Nabista Margaret-33 was arrested on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at her hideout in Kpone by the Tema Regional Police Command for human trafficking. She was preparing to traffic 13 young girls and three young boys between 15 to 20 years old, to Kuwait and Jordan under the guise of evangelism. Nabista confessed after police found seven passports of some of the children. She said the victims were from Dambai in the Volta region to Kpone for evangelism after she whipped up their interest in doing God’s work. The suspect said they had been in Kpone for the past ten days and were getting ready for the next stop. A second suspect, Emmanuel Ashatey who was aiding Margaret in her dubious activities has also been arrested to assist in investigations. The victims have been relocated to a shelter pending investigations after which suspects will be arraigned. The Police say they are making efforts to unite the children with their families after investigations. The Tema Regional Police Command meanwhile has warned parents to take responsibility for their wards. Parents should desist from passing on their kids to strangers and people they perceive to be good Samaritans who promise their wards a better future. Most of these children end up as either domestic or sex slaves in other countries, the statement read.
