Ludovic Boumbas was out celebrating a friend’s birthday on Friday night when gunmen sprayed bullets onto the terrace of La Belle Epique bar on Rue de Charonne in the 11th district. Mr Boumbas, 40, threw himself in front of a female friend to save her life but she was hit by a bullet and ended up in a critical condition in hospital. He paid for his bravery and selflessness with his own life. According to French newspaper Liberation, the Congolese man grew up in Lille and was attending the 35th birthday party of his friend Houda Saadi who died along with her sister Halima, 37, outside the restaurant. Halima is understood to have left behind two young children aged three and six.
