Hon. Justice Joe Appiah, Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North |
Hon. Justice Joe Appiah, the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North Constituency, has disclosed that a colossal amount of money to the tune of $765 million loan secured for addressing the perennial flooding in the country cannot be traced.
The MP, who is also a ranking member of the Committee on Works and Housing, revealed on Atinka FM’s morning show AM Drive after the Committee on Works and Housing met with the Hydrology Department Authority.
According to him, the money was earmarked for projects including building bridges, effective drainage systems, covers and storm drains. The President after the Circle disaster on June 3, 2016, promised he was going to tackle the flood menace.
However, the money cannot be accounted for. The recent flood that hit some parts of Accra did not spare his constituents, particularly residents of Sakama, Dansoman and Awoshie. The MP also raised concerns about the affordability of the 5000 houses located at Kpone, saying Ghanaians cannot pay for such houses.
