Boko Haram: Four year old tells of horror in captivity

Abuja - A four year old victim has told of the horror he experienced in captivity at the hands of Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State, Naij reports. Alkassim Muhammad is believed to have trekked for weeks, and possibly months, before reaching a camp for internally displaced people (IDPs) in Maraban Jos, Kaduna. The boy is believed to have been so affected by his experience that he flees every time he hears a motorcycle, screaming "Boko Haram!" before hiding away from all in sight. Muhammad is said to have been kept in captivity for approximately eight months and witness the slaughter of countless adults and children during that time,

“Up till now his two sisters are still in Boko Haram captivity. His father died of heart attack when he got tired of running from Boko Haram during several attacks on their Bama community in Borno state,” Rabi Ibrahim, founder of the Arrida Relief Foundation Nigeria, was quoted as saying.

Most children housed in the camp with Muhammad are believed to have escaped and traveled through the thick forest for seven days, drinking each other's urine as a means to survive.

While presenting camp management with some food items for the survivors, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Mr Muhammad, thanked Ibrahim for her big heart and urged more organizations to give attention to similar IDP camps in Rigasa, Kauta village, Barakallahu and Gadan Gayan.
