Ghana: Denkyira sever ties with MCEs over Queen Mother Endorsement

The two municipal and district chief executives for the Denkyira area have been cursed by the traditional authorities there for speaking up to the queen mother of the area following her endorsement of Nana Akufo-Addo. Nana Ama Ayensua Saara made news last week after she predicted victory for the NPP flagbearer during his campaign tour of the area.

A National Democratic Congress (NDC) serial caller in the Ashanti Region, popularly known as Sly, has burnt the party’s flag after claiming that he is disappointed with the governing party. Sly, burnt the NDC flag, when the the opposition New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Asokwa Constituency, Patricia Appiagyei, was launching her campaign.

Electricity Company of Ghana has disconnected electricity supply to the new Cape Coast Sports Stadium over GH¢ 719,792.46 debt. A Prison officer whose name was only given as Budu has committed suicide at Duayaw Nkwanta in the Brong-Ahafo Region. The 33-year-old deceased is said to have committed the act in his room. Shocked residents, indicated that Budu as a prison officer also owns a printing press and two shops thus his conduct cannot be blamed on monetary issue.

Ghana's Electoral Commission ordered to submit a “comprehensive” list of all persons who registered with NHIS cards in 2012, by June 29 to the Supreme Court. The court has also directed the EC to develop a guideline on the specific processes and methods they intend to adopt in implementing the orders in the May 5 judgement on the voters register.

Abuja - Terrorist group, Boko Haram, has set up an FM station broadcasting on 96.8 frequency, the Hausa service of Voice of America has said. According to the report, villagers living in the village of Tolkomari in the far north state of Cameroon said they tune to the station. Also read:Boko Haram ordered to release hostages The station is being used by the terrorist group to spread its propaganda challenging statements from authorities that they are winning the war. The station broadcast mainly propaganda messages to counter media reports of victories by troops from Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon and Niger Republic against the insurgents. Recently the Nigerian army have been recording successes in their battle against Boko Haram. The Nigerian government is yet to react to this latest development.

Pakistan: Woman throws acid at man who refused to marry her

Islamabad — A woman in Pakistan was arrested for allegedly throwing acid on a man who refused to marry her, police said Friday, making an unusual case in a country where rates of violence against women are high.

A 41-year-old American man and father of two, Tyrel Martin Marhanka, was sitting in a courtroom in Taiwan during his sentencing on drug possession charges when he suddenly pulled a sharp object and stabbed it deep into his neck, unleashing a gush of blood, according to the Taipei Times. Some witnesses said the object he stabbed himself with was a pair of scissors, while others said they saw him use two metallic objects.
