THREE members of a Chinese family have been gruesomely murdered in Kitwe’s Garneton while three others were seriously injured by criminals who broke into a Golden King Investments factory. Copperbelt commissioner of police Joyce Kasosa said in an interview yesterday that the three were murdered in the
early hours of yesterday while the three survivors are nursing injuries at Sinozam Hospital in Kitwe. Ms Kasosa said the criminals broke the safe at Golden King Investments and stole an undisclosed amount of cash. The deceased have only been identified as the Wang family, who used to live in their factory at Golden King Investments in Garneton. “Sharp instruments were used by criminals. We are treating it as an aggravated robbery because an undisclosed amount of money was also stolen,” Ms Kasosa said. She said police have instituted investigations into the murders and aggravated robbery. He appealed to members of the public to help police with information leading to the arrest of the suspects. Kitwe district commissioner Chanda Kabwe is saddened by the brutal murders. In his message of condolences to the Wang family and Chinese Embassy in Zambia, Mr Chanda said: “As Government, we regret the brutal killing of three members of the Wang family. We don’t condone such acts. We are told the company has 70 employees. We would like to assure investors that we will do everything possible to bring criminals behind this to book.” A check by the Zambia Daily Mail at Golden King Investments found workers in shock and the shop closed. Mr Michael Phiri, an employee of Golden King Investments, described the death of the three employers as heart-breaking. Mr Phiri said the deaths are a big loss because the family employed many people. “I reported for work at 07:00 hours when I learnt that my three bosses have been murdered. I was very shocked,” he said. Mr Clement Chama, another employee, said the families will suffer as workers are likely to lose jobs following the death of their employers. “There are no damages and the killers of my employers were not seen entering the gate. It looks like it is an inside job,” he said.
