Nigeria: Suspected Boko Haram Militant Arrested - Army

Nigerian army said a suspected Boko Haram Islamist militant on its top 100 wanted list was arrested in the country’s northeast. The suspect was apprehended in the Borno state capital of Maiduguri on Saturday, according to an e-mailed statement from army spokesman Sani Usman. “He is suspect 26 on the list,” Usman wrote referring to a series of 100 photographs of suspected Boko Haram militants released by the military last month. At least two others from the list have been arrested since then. Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the military to defeat the Boko Haram insurgency by the end of the year. The group has killed tens of thousands of people since it started a violent campaign in 2009 to impose its version of Islamic law on Africa’s largest economy. Usman said in the statement the military would continue to “solicit for public support, cooperation and understanding” to put an end to the insurgency.
