A new contractor, First Sky has been awarded the construction of the 2.9km town road in Hohoe in the Volta Region. Work begun in earnest after the Minister of Roads and Highways, Inusah Fuseini visited the area last week. As early as 2:30am [Saturday], work was progressing steadily on the project. One of the workmen said they are expected to complete work on the road in two weeks. President John Dramani Mahama during the State of the Nation Address said the project was steadily progressing, but checks proved otherwise. The contractor Gohez had abandoned the project and had long evacuated the site.
The sector minister, subsequently threw a challenge disputing the report hence the visit to the place. But, the minister was met by angry residents who described as mischievous the obvious misrepresentation of their situation presented to the president. Meanwhile, the project has been awarded to a new company named First Sky which is working day and night to ensure that the project is completed on time. Against that backdrop, residents called for the immediate dismissal of the engineers of feeder roads in the area for “deceiving the minister of Roads and the President” on the state of roads.
