A timely response by parents, community leaders and police led to the rescue of a three month old baby girl who is now on admission at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for treatment. The baby girl has
survived a five-hour death scare by her mother in a water-logged septic tank in alleged drowning attempt at Abirem in the Kwabre East District of the Ashanti Region. Twenty-three year old Attaa Adomah had dumped the child in the unused tank so she could marry her former boy-friend who has just returned from abroad. The baby who is out of danger after three hours in a man-hole is currently recuperating at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. Unemployed Adomah left home with the intention to end the life of her 3-month old baby. The child whose father has denied responsibility has become a stumbling block to prospects of re-uniting with her returnee boyfriend with whom she has a four-year old male child. Adoma dumped the baby in an unused septic tank at Abirem New Site not far from their home in the Kwabre East District;. Her curious parents were alarmed by her explanations that the baby had gone missing, reported the matter to Assemblyman for the area who in turn informed police at Kenyase. DSP Emmanuel Adu Boahene, the District Commander, who confirmed the incident, says investigations have begun into the matter. Adomah initially denied knowledge of the child’s whereabouts but later led police to the scene where the baby was retrieved at about 9 p.m, five hours after it has been dumped there. She is now asking for forgiveness.
