Afoko Crossed-Carpet From NDC To NPP In 2004

Suspended New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman of the Party, Paul Afoko is an ‘NDC mole’ planted in the NPP by the NDC to destroy its ranks. Speaking on Accra-based Rainbow Radio, the Northern regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bugri Naabu has said and described Paul Afoko was a member of the NDC, who only crossed-carpet in 2004 to join the NPP. “Paul Afoko was an NDC, that is his background and he came to join the party in 2004. He has never held a polling station executive position, neither has he ever held a constituency position or a regional position…,” he said. The age-long internal wrangling in the NPP was stoked again after the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the NPP suspended the chairman indefinitely a fortnight ago. A member of the NPP, Oppong Kyekyeku subsequently filed a writ at the court praying it to cause his reinstatement, but the writ was thrown out after the court argued that he lacked locus in the case. The court action was followed by a demonstration by pro-Afoko loyalists at the party’s Asylum Down headquarters demanding his reinstatement. These actions, Bugri Naabu believes, were sponsored by Afoko to further his hidden agenda of disintegrating the NPP and causing Nana Addo to lose the 2016 Elections.
