A mass burial ceremony has been held for the seven persons who lost their lives in last Friday’s fire at a house in Asante Mampong in the Ashanti region. According to eyewitnesses, the victims could not be rescued from the burning house because of the burglar proof installed on their windows and doors, which prevented rescuers from breaking in.
The fire is said to have started around midnight and trapped a father and his four children along with two others who were visiting. The cause of the fire is not immediately known. Mighty FM’s Stephen Bulley who has been following the incident reports that the entire community of Asante Mampong was thrown into a state of mourning as the final rites were performed for the mortal remains of the victims at the Mampong Cemetery.
The widow, who could not hold back her tears described the death of her husband as very tragic. Suhum Hene, Osaberima Ayeh Kofi who is related to the victims said there will not be any funeral service because of the nature of the deaths. "This issue is really bigger than us. They are my relatives and I know them very well and I must say that I am very heart broken. There won’t be any funeral service because the situation is just too unfortunate” he said.
